Crowns and veneers can both help rework a smile. But they do have different functions.

Crowns

A crown has many functions and benefits – they are both a useful treatment that adds strength to the tooth, they can be used to protect the tooth – just like a jacket – from further decay and breakage –  and can also prove very successful as a purely cosmetic treatment.

A crown supports  your natural tooth and provides the strength and firmness required for the tooth to be fully functional.

Crowns can also be purely cosmetic and are often a preferred option for many patients looking to primarily enhance their smile.

An artificial crown sits on top of the natural “crown top” of your tooth which is the part of the tooth which you can see above the gum line.

The crown is designed to fit snugly and match your existing tooth colour so they fit in with your current smile and have the appeal of look seamlessly natural.

One appointment is required in the morning for about 45 minutes while the crown is custom designed to suit your smile and the existing tooth is prepared and reshaped to be able to fit the crown. And another short 15-minute appointment is required a few hours later for your crown to be fitted to your tooth.   A short in person or telephone review appointment is held a week later to make sure your crown has settled nicely, and you are completely satisfied with the results.

Veneers

Veneers can certainly dramatically improve your smile.  They are a seamless, convenient, non-invasive solution for smile enhancement.

Veneers are a strong thin porcelain tooth coloured jacket that is bonded to the front of your tooth. The bonding is invisible ensuring the veneer looks very natural.

Veneers are designed to purely enhance your smile.  They are a fabulous solution to resolve issues you may have with the shape, size or colour of your teeth. This includes any miss – shaped, uneven, stained or gapped teeth.  They have a natural appeal but offer the strength and durability of porcelain.  They are extremely popular with patients who are looking to improve the shape of individual teeth and reset and illuminate their smile.  One benefit of veneers over crowns is that the veneer is made to be a much thinner jacket resulting in a very natural look.

Veneers can be applied to just one or two or many of your front teeth.

Our dentists will work with you to design veneers to suit your desired look, they will develop a comprehensive treatment plan for you to take home so you will know the number and duration of the appointments involved and the total cost. They will also walk you through the payment plan options available at our clinic so you can decide what suits your look and your budget.
